Facilities Planning Process

Due to increasing enrollment and academic changes, in 2016 the School Board approved a Facilities Planning Assessment for Earle Brown Elementary and Brooklyn Center Secondary. A Facilities Assessment is an important way to capture a current "snapshot" of our District's facilities as part of a long-range plan.

TSP Architecture, Engineering and Planning has been working with the district and a Facilities Committee throughout 2016 and 2017 to review past studies, conduct in-person observations and confirm or modify information as we formulate our recommendations. Resulting plans will identify building deficiencies, explain how much it will cost to fix deficiencies, prioritize capital improvements and provide hard data to help stakeholders understand facility needs.

Highlights of 2017 recommendations:

  • Earle Brown Elementary:
    • Keep Early Childhood programs on site.
    • Add a second floor addition on top of the existing kindergarten wing for capacity.
    • Address some minor remodeling of existing space for improved security and space utilization.
  • Brooklyn Center Secondary:
    • Separate the Middle School and High School students for an improved academic experience.
    • Remodel key spaces to both incorporate STEAM and address deferred maintenance needs.
